The Cooking Utensils Every Good Cook Needs! Pt. 1

Check out some of our favorite things to use in the kitchen!

In my many years of cooking professionally I've come across cooking tools I could toss and some I can't live without. I've compiled a list of some of my favorites below with links from Amazon. Couple these tools with our Fall 2020 cookbooks as a gift for yourself or loved one. Yellow House Vibes earns a small percentage of the sale on qualifying purchases. Although a small percentage, a little adds up, and we can’t thank you enough for using our links.

1. Chef Knife

The first on my list is the Mercer 8 -inch Chef Knife. If you're a cookbook subscriber and watched our knife skills video, this will come at no surprise! A chef knife will make cooking a more fun, easier, and much faster experience! I like this one because it's cost effective, reliable, durable, and very comfortable to use. I've had my mercer chef knife dating back 11 years from Culinary school and it still works just as good as it did on day 1. These are also the only knives I purchase for our catering kitchen.

You can purchase it using this link, Mercer Culinary M22608 Millennia 8-Inch Chef's Knife, Black

2. Knife Sharpener

If you want an easy, no hassle, low cost knife sharpener check out this link for the SunrisePro Supreme Knife Sharpener

3. Sharpening/Honing Steel

The chef knife, sharpener, and steel is a 3 pack, one cannot be without the other! This Mercer Culinary Genesis Knife Sharpening Steel is another brand that I've had for over a decade and has not failed me yet! And again, if you are a cookbook subscriber we show you how to use all of these products, in our online cooking training videos!

4. Vegetable Peeler

You'll never know how much you need a vegetable peeler, until you don't have one! However, I don't use just any peeler. I like the swivel peelers like the one found here, Spring Chef Premium Swivel Vegetable Peeler.

5. Pizza Cutter

The pizza cutter is another tool that you don't realize how much you need until you have it. Aside from the obvious you can use this tool for pie crust (my favorite), pasta, flatbread, and quesadillas. Check this one out by KtichenAid KitchenAid Classic Pizza Wheel, 9-Inch, Black.

6. Pastry Cutter/ Blender

I cannot create a Favorite Things List without including a handy, oh so dandy, pastry cutter! I am always finding new ways to use my pastry cutter. Some of these ways, besides pie crust of course, include chopping and mashing avocados for guacamole, eggs for egg salad, bananas for banana bread, or berries and grapes for jams. This Spring Chef Dough Blender has received high reviews on Amazon.

That is all for now but please continue to check back as we add more of our favorite things to help you become a better cook and host! We’d love to know your favorite things inside and outside the kitchen. Please let us know by leaving a comment!

Also, our Fall 2020 Cookbook is available for purchase now. Purchase it here, Fall 2020 Cookbook.
